OVERVIEW
410 STAINLESS STEEL
410 stainless is a corrosion and heat resistant 12% chromium steel, and is the most widely used of the hardenable stainless steels. Heat treated 410 has mechanical properties comparable to the engineering alloy steel AISI 4130, coupled with the additional benefit of good corrosion resistance. 410 is highly resistant to atmospheric corrosion. Maximum corrosion resistance is obtained by hardening and polishing.
This alloy’s performance varies with temperature: elevated conditions may reduce its strength, whereas lower temperatures could affect its ductility. 410 is ideal for scenarios demanding high strength with moderate resistance to corrosion and heat.

-
What is 410 stainless steel coil?
>410 stainless steel coil is a martensitic stainless steel that offers high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent wear resistance.
-
How is 410 stainless steel different from 304 stainless steel grades?
>410 stainless steel is martensitic, meaning it can be hardened by heat treatment. It offers less corrosion resistance compared to austenitic grades like 304, but it has higher mechanical strength.
-
Is 410 stainless steel magnetic?
>Yes, 410 stainless steel is magnetic, especially in its hardened and tempered state, as it is a martensitic steel.
-
How resistant is 410 stainless steel coil to corrosion?
>410 stainless steel offers moderate corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments.
-
Can 410 stainless steel coil be heat treated?
>Yes, 410 stainless steel can be heat-treated to increase hardness and strength.
-
Can 410 stainless steel coil be used in marine environments?
>It is not recommended for use in marine environments because its corrosion resistance is insufficient to handle the high chloride content in seawater.
-
What thicknesses are available for 410 stainless steel coils?
>410 stainless steel coils are available in a range of thicknesses, typically from 0.5 mm to 4 mm.
-
Can 410 stainless steel be cold worked?
>Yes, 410 stainless steel can be cold worked, but its high hardness and strength may cause work hardening, making further forming more difficult.
